Thank you Michelle Meissner and the Hicksville Stop and Shop!!!

My name is Michelle and I work for Stop and Shop Supermarket.  The first time I met Vinny Gaynor was around the summer of “2009”.  Vinny came into the Bellmore Stop and shop looking for a donation to do a benefit for his daughter Sophia who had a SMA.  I was more then happy to help him out and give him a gift card donation.  Well Vinny had left me the flyer of the event and what it was for.  Never even hearing of SMA I took a moment to read it.  My eyes swelled up as I continued to read on and could not believe what this baby was going through, or imagine what the family was going through.  I decided to take it upon myself to go to that event at Mulchays to see what it was all about.  I was amazed how crowded it was and touched to see how many people came together to support the Gaynor family.

I thought a lot that night and wondered what I could do to help the Gaynor’s raise more money to find a cure.  With the help of the associates of the Bellmore Stop and Shop, I was able to put together a bake sale for one weekend in our store.  When the employees found out about Sophia everyone got involved, and that weekend we collected over $2,000.  I was so excited and could not wait to present the Gaynor’s with the check.  That day I finally got to meet Sophia.  She melted my heart.  All I kept thinking was “what a beautiful baby”!!

So that brings me to today.  Even though I was transferred to the Hicksville store, it has not stopped me from wanting to help more.  When I saw the “200 Challenge” I talked to my store manager about taking it on, not only for Sophia but for all the SMA babies out there.  I accept the challenge to collect $5,000 (and hopefully exceed this goal) and along with the management team and associates of Stop and Shop in Hicksville, we will raise the money to fight SMA!!!!
