We are making this commitment in honor of our Godson, Charleston “Cash” Goeppert. We have known Cash’s parents, Cameron and Ashley, since we were all in high school. We have had many fun and happy times together, but none as happy as two of the biggest events in their lives. We were so happy for them and blessed to be there on their wedding day to watch them get married and start their lives as husband and wife. We watched them with our two young sons and always knew that they would have kids and start a family; they were naturals! So we could not have been happier for them when we found out that they were expecting. When they asked us if we would be Cash’s Godparents, we were shocked and honored. A couple of days after he was born, we made the 3 hour drive from our house to theirs to meet their precious blessing, our Godson, Charleston. He was absolutely perfect. It was just a few short months later that Cameron and Ashley told us that the pediatrician had some concerns at Cash’s appointment and that they were running some tests. What did this mean? What tests were they running? I tried to make sense of what they were telling us, and could only begin to imagine how they were feeling and what they were going through themselves.
I had no idea what SMA was when Cash was first diagnosed, but quickly came to learn all about it. I was shocked to find out how many people carry the gene and don’t even know it, and how many families are affected by SMA. I have watched Cameron and Ashley go through this fight with their precious child and want nothing more than for there to be a cure. That is why we have joined this campaign. I have learned so much by watching Ashley, Cameron and Charleston, but the number one thing I have learned is that WE WILL NOT GIVE UP and we WILL find a cure.
We love you Charleston Sage Goeppert!
