I had never heard of SMA until I started making jewelry and I met a friend of a friend, Kristin Banjany, whose son Nathan has SMA Type 1. For some reason, Nathan’s pictures and story wouldn’t stop replaying in my head, and I knew I was being called to do something. Together, Kristin and I came up with the idea of the SMA Awareness Necklace, which has now transpired into a whole line of jewelry to honor SMA children. Not only has the SMA community opened their lives and their hearts to me, they have taught me how to really live and cherish every moment with my children.
I think it is important that SayWhat Creations takes on the $5k commitment because I KNOW a cure is around the corner. Five thousand dollars seems SO minimal when we are talking about the lives of children. Nathan. Sophia. Violet. Getty. Just to name a few. The names and faces of SMA children play constantly through my head and I am in this fight for THEM. I am honored that I am able to use my creative abilities in order to do some good in this world and to give back to those who have given me so much.
